Jesus in Galilee: Miracles, Ministry, and the Mount of Beatitudes

Join us on location in northern Israel as we trace the footsteps of Jesus through the region of Galilee, exploring both his personal identity and his preaching ministry.

We begin in Cana, where Jesus performed his first miracle — turning water into wine at a wedding feast (John 2) — and his second, healing a nobleman's son from a distance. We look at the archaeological debate between two candidate sites, Khirbet Cana and Kfar Cana, and examine the churches, relics, and traditions that have grown up around this small Galilean town, along with a caution about how ancient artifacts are sometimes claimed as biblical relics without solid evidence.

From there we travel to the Mount of Beatitudes overlooking the Sea of Galilee, where Jesus likely taught on holiness, prayer, and dependence on God with an authority that amazed the crowds.

Finally, we arrive at Caesarea Philippi — a center of pagan worship in the shadow of shrines to Greek gods — where Peter made his famous confession: "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." It's here that Jesus's identity is affirmed in the strongest terms, and where he declares he will build his church.

Along the way, we consider what these Galilean miracles and teachings reveal about who Jesus is, and why the Gospel of John tells us these signs were recorded "so that you may believe" (John 20:30-31).
